AN ESTABLISHED Keighley post office is up for sale.
Thwaites Brow Post Office, which is in Moss Carr Road, has been owned and run by Kevin Gamble for the past 28 years.
Mr Gamble, 63, said he has recently been suffering from poor health, and is planning to retire. He runs the outlet with some help from his wife Carol and also employs a part time assistant.
He said there has been a post office at this premises for about 35 years, adding that the neighbourhood's previous post office was in Calton Road.
He said he hoped whoever buys the property, which also includes accommodation, will want to keep it going as a post office.
"There isn't another one for quite a long way," he said. "The next closest ones are probably in WH Smith in Keighley town centre and in Riddlesden.
"We are busy. I sell papers as well, so between the post and papers it's kept myself and a part time assistant going quite happily.
"My customers have seen the 'for sale' signs, so they know what's happening. Most of them have said 'you've done a fair whack, so fair enough'.
"It's been wonderful and I've enjoyed it. The people here are lovely and the place is great with nice countryside five minutes down the road."
Mr Gamble used to manage a newsagents in Drighlington before taking on the post office.
He said he hoped to be able to continue living in the Long Lee area.
