A KEIGHLEY firm of solicitors has been closed down.

Burr Sugden, in Devonshire Street, has shut after one of its partners was struck off.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) confirms that Timothy John Wilkinson has been struck from the roll.

He had been referred to the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal earlier this year.

The SRA said it had exercised 'powers of intervention' yesterday to protect clients' interests and Burr Sugden had now shut.

Clients are instead being directed to John Owen of Gordons LLP in Bradford, who has been appointed 'intervention agent'.

He said he was unable to comment on the situation.

A notice on the door of the Burr Sugden premises says: "On 22 October, 2015, the Solicitors Regulation Authority intervened into Burr Sugden. The firm is now closed and can no longer act for you.

"All practice papers, files and monies held by the firm at the date of intervention are now in the possession of the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

"For all enquiries, please contact the appointed intervention agent John Owen at Gordons LLP, Forward House, 8 Duke Street, Bradford BD1 3QX (tel no 01274 703903) DX: 11716 Bradford. E-mail intervention@gordonsllp.com."

According to Burr Sugden's website, Mr Wilkinson had been with the firm for more than 40 years and a partner since 1974.

His profile described him as concentrating on private client work with a particular focus on wills, trusts, administering estates, powers of attorney and related Court of Protection matters.
