A FAMILY had to have their car rescued from the water at a bridge after they followed their satellite navigation to the letter.
The family from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, featuring two adults, two children and a dog, were travelling to St Ives at Harden when their day trip took a turn for the worst.
Residents tried in vain to rescue the family’s car from the water at Pack Horse Bridge, also known as Beckfoot Bridge, when they got stuck, and they had to call for a tow company to get them out.
No-one was injured in the incident, at around noon yesterday, and none of the emergency services were called out.
Witness Christine Shears, of Bingley, said: “It took them over an hour to get out of the water after they got stuck.
“It’s quite unusual for people to get stuck on the bridge.
“People had no joy when they tried to rescue them.”
At the same time, a cyclist then tried to go past the car while it was stuck but was injured as he tried to get out.
