HUNDREDS of people of all ages enjoyed a pair of ghastly gatherings in Haworth last weekend as part of the village's latest "Hawortheen" celebrations.
They turned up on both Saturday and Sunday (Oct 29/30) for a pair of well attended parades along Main Street, dedicated to showing off some of the most scarily imaginative costumes and makeup.
More than 200 people took part in the annual Dragon Day event on the Saturday, with at least 100 children dressing up for the occasion and participating in the procession.
The village continued to host spooky entertainment the following day, with a ghouls parade again up Main Street, followed by more fun and games.
The weekend featured a Day of the Dead event in the Old Hall complete with music and food, as well as other entertainment in the Black Bull and Sun Pubs.
Weekend organiser and Main Street trader Mike Hutchinson said: "It has been terrific. The weather was kind on both days – a little nippy but dry – there was a good turnout on the Saturday and on Sunday the number of people was phenomenal.
"We had a good Halloween display at Ye Sleeping House bed and breakfast and we had collection boxes out to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and for village events.
"This is an established part of the calendar now and the atmosphere was brilliant. Everyone had a lot of fun and many of the costumes this year were absolutely superb.
"Even those outfits which were 'off the peg' had been tweaked further."
As in previous years the Dragon Parade was led by popular street performer Rachel Hyde, of Chicks on Sticks, who wore her dragon rider costume.
She was escorted by costumed members of the local Ulfhednar Vikings re-enactment group.
On the Saturday trophies were offered to the best dressed boy and girl. Mr Hutchinson added that small medals were presented to everyone who turned up in a suitably spooky outfit.
Haworth Sun Street resident Mark Wallace, who brought along his two sons aged seven and five dressed as skeletons, said: "This is the second year we've come, the kids enjoyed it so much last year I couldn't let them down!
"The organisers have made a really good effort again and they deserve credit for putting their time into this.
"I'll have to think up a new costume for the kids to wear for next year, because it's good to do something a little different each time."
