HAWORTH is the setting for the first-ever performance of choral works inspired by the village’s famous literary family Brontë family.
Birmingham -based choir Via Nova will present the pieces, also inspired by Yorkshire’s coal heritage, at Haworth Parish Church on August 16.
Viva Nova perform in the village as part of a four-day tour of Yorkshire, with a repertoire also including a choral piece composed by organist Philip Moore, the former organist and Master of Music at York Minster.
Via Nova encourage experimental and innovative arts and have a strong commitment to living composers, especially artists who come from or work in Birmingham and the West Midlands.
The choir decided to bring their Bronte-inspired works to Haworth comes during the 200th anniversary year of Branwell Brontë’s birth.
The 7.30pm concert in Haworth Parish Church will last for 75 minutes and admission will be free with a retiring collection being taken to help cover the choir’s tour costs as well as the church’s costs.
A choir spokesman said: “We’re very much looking forward to visiting Haworth Parish Church and it’s exciting to be performing in a building and village with such well known literary heritage.”
