A DISTRICT MP campaigning for 'buy British' sections on supermarket websites has welcomed the introduction of one by Morrisons.
And Philip Davies, whose Shipley constituency includes Cullingworth and Denholme, is now urging other companies to follow suit.
Mr Davies, who worked for Asda before entering Parliament, was amongst more than 120 MPs who campaigned on the issue in the summer and wrote to supermarket bosses.
He says: "I'm delighted that Morrisons has introduced this change and I know it will be welcomed by British farmers and businesses too.
"Many shops and businesses already sell and label British produce but what we wanted was for all the products to be in one section, easily accessible so shoppers had the choice to only buy British if that's what they wanted.
"Our British farmers work hard to ensure our food security and it is right we do everything we can to support them. I hope other supermarkets will follow the lead of Morrisons and make this simple change to their websites.
"Since we wrote to the supermarket bosses, over 27,000 people have also signed a National Farmers Union petition."
The section on the Morrisons website can be found via the ‘Shop Groceries’ menu.
