A KEIGHLEY performing arts academy is turning on the style.

BOLT Academy is presenting Lionel Bart's classic, award-winning musical, Oliver!

Freddie Bolt, for the Lawkholme Lane-based academy, says the show is set to be its "biggest and best" yet.

Performances are being given at Bingley Arts Centre from Thursday, May 30, until Saturday, June 1, at 7pm. Plus there will be a 1pm show on the Saturday.

Freddie says: "Based on the novel by Charles Dickens, the musical follows the story of a small boy with a big heart – Oliver, played by Grayson Charlton and Lincoln Schofield-Wilson – as he journeys from a desolate workhouse to the paved streets of Victorian London in search of love and a place to call home.

"He is taken in by the Artful Dodger – played by Brodie Nkome and Noah Ingram – who introduces him to Fagin, a role filled by Bo Healeas and Maggie Flaherty.

"Although his story isn’t straightforward and takes a nasty turn as he steers straight into trouble in the form of Bill Sikes, played by Harry Jerwood, Oliver is taken care of and mothered by Nancy (Molly Sharples and Emmie Dolan).

"Will Oliver find his home? Come and see our production to find out!

"Featuring memorable songs such as Food, Glorious Food; Oom Pah-Pah; I’d Do Anything and the angelic sounds of Where is Love?, Oliver is a heart-warming masterpiece suitable for all to enjoy."

Freddie adds: "Our students have been working incredibly hard since the auditions back in February, and the show is taking shape to be our biggest and best one yet.

"We have some standout performances from the lead characters and many other students who make up the talented cast.

"We've most certainly taken a huge step up in terms of the whole production and we can’t wait for everyone to come and see it."

The show will feature all the academy's Thursday performing arts students.

It is directed by Freddie, and Sophie Hammond. Musical director is Laura McGee and choreographers Alice Goddard and Gabrielle Johnson.

BOLT Academy was last year the subject of glowing praise from Keighley MP Robbie Moore after it performed Snow White and the 37 Dwarfs.

He said: ""I can't thank BOLT Academy enough for all it does for our young people across Keighley and beyond."
