A CHARITY fundraising night is being held in memory of a popular Keighley respite centre manager.

The event – at the Hollygarth Club, Ilkley, next month – is in tribute to Joanne Slaven.

Joanne managed the Clockhouse Project, in Oakworth Road, a centre for young people with disabilities and complex health care needs.

She died from a brain tumour in 2016.

The fundraising event – on June 15 – is the latest initiative to be organised by Jo's Bees, a group set up to help raise money for social and environmental causes in memory of Joanne.

Starring at the event will be USA-based band The Currys, and opening the night will be acclaimed country trio Marti, Rich and Keith.

Joanne's daughter, Sally Lawrence, is part of the organising team.

She says: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome The Currys to play at this special event.

"They are a harmony-based country/indie/folk/Americana/rock trio out of Charlottesville. Brothers Tommy and Jimmy and cousin Galen all write and perform their own songs, and last year they crowdfunded and released their fourth studio album.

"They are touring the UK and will also be playing the Isle of Wight Festival whilst they're here! It is a band not to be missed.

"We're also excited to have Marti, Rich and Keith. Known as Yorkshire's answer to Nashville, they are highly accomplished musicians showcasing beautiful harmonies and with a great onstage chemistry."

There will also be a raffle, and signature Americana cocktails on sale at The Wild Horse Kitchen.

Proceeds will go to three causes – the Singing Teapot, a choir spearheaded by Dementia Friendly Keighley, which meets monthly at the charity's information and support centre in the Airedale Shopping Centre; Keighley Salvation Army, which is seeking to rollout two cooking-based community projects; and the Nell Bank Charitable Trust, in Ilkley.

"Anyone attending the event can decide which cause they would like to support," says Sally. "By placing their ticket in a particular bucket, we will work out the percentage for each project and then distribute the funds accordingly."

She adds: "These causes would all have been important to Jo. Fundraising in her memory is a lovely way to honour her.

"She would have loved this event and would've been dancing all night long!"
