A Keighley town councillor has been charged with making death threats, assault and criminal damage.
Cllr Paul Heseltine, of North View Street, Beechcliffe, appeared at Bradford Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The charges against him relate to an alleged incident in the early hours of Sunday at his home.
Cllr Heseltine’s court hearing was adjourned and he is due to reappear — at Bingley Magistrates’ Court — on March 2.
He has represented the Spring Gardens and Utley Ward on the town council since his election in May 2007.
He owns Beechcliffe Stores convenience shop, in Arctic Street, and has been heavily involved in youth work and organising social events for residents in his neighbourhood.
He was present at last Thursday’s full monthly meeting of the town council.
He was unavailable for comment this week.
Keighley town clerk Miggy Bailey said it would be inappropriate to comment while legal proceedings were ongoing.
