BROOMHILL have secured promotion to Division One of the Skipton Body Repair Centre Craven League in their last game of the season after a fine 2-0 victory at title rivals Carleton.
First-half goals from Andy Tanner and Patrick King were the difference in an end-to-end game, and Broomhill will take the championship if neighbours Polonia, who can still go up themselves, win at Carleton on Saturday.
The Badgers made one change from the midweek 4-0 victory at Grassington United Reserves, when Tanner scored three and King one, with man of the match Bradley Holland brought into centre midfield in place of Mark Hardman.
Broomhill, playing downhill, started the brighter in their must-win game, with King and Chris Holroyd both going close in the opening minutes.
Holroyd, anchoring the midfield, was finding plenty of space and it was through him that the scoring was opened.
Picking up a loose ball in midfield, Tanner chased his instinctive through ball and, although the keeper beat him to it, the shot-stopper took an extra touch and was dispossessed.
Tanner was then hauled over before he could shoot, earning a penalty which he confidently tucked away.
Carleton were struggling with Tanner's movement, and balls through to him were rarely stopped at source, with Tom Hill, Holland and Holroyd winning their battles.
On the half-hour, Tanner beat his man and squared across the box for King, who somehow missed the target.
Soon after, however, he made amends with a clinical header when David Rhodes floated a free-kick into the box from the halfway line, King calmly heading in from six yards.
The home side woke up after this and had a number of chances, but Jake Yaxley made some brilliant saves.
In the second half, the game became scrappy and a number of yellow cards were issued to each team.
Now playing into the sun, the Broomhill defence struggled with a few high balls, but, on the whole limited the home side to long-range efforts and set-pieces.
With 20 minutes remaining, a Carleton free-kick from 25 yards was drilled in low and hard, and took a slight deflection off the wall, Yaxley's superb reflex save keeping the home side at bay.
The game then petered out without any major fightback from the hosts in what was arguably the Badgers' best away performance of the season.
Polonia warmed up for their showdown with a 10-0 home win against Cononley Sports Reserves, thanks to goals by Mirdstaw Bak (5), Lukasz Sarosinki (2), substitute Maciej Zoltek (2) and Pizemyslaw Witch.
Cononley had earlier had a 4-4 draw against Pendle Renegades Reserves, Craig Lumsden (2), Craig Ebbrell and Colin Throupe being on target.
Cowling are pushing Sporting Keighley all of the way for the second promotion spot behind Pendle Renegades in Division One.
The south Craven club beat AFC Colne 4-0 in midweek, courtesy of Sam Woolley (2), Jody Procter and Luke Barker, and followed that up with a 2-1 victory at Skipton Town.
Third-placed Sporting Keighley need four points from their last two matches to go up.
Bradley, already relegated, are ending the season with a whimper, conceding against Pendle Renegades and losing 6-0 at Rolls Reserves.
In the Premier Division, ten-man Silsden Whitestar triumphed 2-0 at Grassington United, with substitutes Simon Cox and Jack Kendall getting the goals, with Gavin Shearer being dismissed, but followed that up with a 2-0 home loss to Settle United.
Broomhill Reserves are battling to avoid the wooden spoon in Division Three, and improved their chances with a shock 4-1 home victory over second-placed Barnoldswick Barons, their marksmen being Aaron Pearce (2), Dale Duff and man of the match Brad Holland.
Improving Sutton are having an exciting end to the season, losing 5-4 at fourth-placed AFC Barnoldswick, substitute Nick Trowers (2), man of the match Jack Shaw and Nathan Todd getting the consolations, but they bounced back with a 6-1 victory at Ingrow & Worth Valley Reserves, with man of the match James Macdonald (3), Charles Lee, Ben Loker and Jamie Wilson on target.
