THERE was an air of inevitability about the announcement this week from Marks & Spencer.

As soon as the company revealed its Keighley store was “proposed” for closure, there was only ever really likely to be one outcome.

The statement confirming it will shut on April 21 just knocks that final nail into the coffin.

Sad as it is for the town to lose such a famous brand from the high street, our thoughts now go out to the staff affected.

Everything possible must be done to ensure they are helped through what will be a hugely difficult period.
