THERE’LL be relief all round at the news that Haworth’s public loos have been saved.
When Bradford Council first announced it was proposing to close the facilities, there was understandably a massive outcry.
To see public toilets go down the pan in a tourist honeypot like Haworth, one of the world’s top literary shines, was simply unthinkable.
Congratulations must go to the local parish council for seizing the initiative and stepping in to take over the running of the toilets, in the parsonage museum car park and at Central Park.
The nitty gritty of the agreement is still to be sorted, but it is hoped both blocks will reopen soon.
Whilst the cuts are continuing to hit hard in different ways across the district, on the plus side the situation has brought community spirit to the fore.
Another example of that togetherness has been seen at Silsden, where a ceremony has taken place to mark the handing over of the town hall keys to trustees.
Management of the building, which was threatened with closure, has now been taken over by the community.
