THE launch of the Poppy Appeal remains, and always will, one of the most important events in this town's and my own calendar.
For over 100 years, the appeal has been raising money for our armed forces community, their families and so much more.
Millions of the little, paper flowers and other goods are created every year to remember those who have served – and are serving – our country; offering a unique and beautiful opportunity to honour the personnel who have kept, and continue to keep, this country safe.
I want to extend my thanks and admiration to Jackie McGinnis for all that she does for the appeal as well as the Royal British Legion, its volunteers, our veterans and everyone who donates and backs the campaign every year.
My mayoress will be doing her bit as I hope to as well, and also I would like to thank my deputy mayor John Kirby for being in attendance at the weekend's launch.
Please visit the stall in the Airedale Shopping Centre at the old Scope shop and let's come together to do our bit to back our armed forces community and wear our poppies with pride.
Councillor Luke Maunsell, Keighley town mayor
