WELL done to Councillor Luke Maunsell, on a good year in office as town mayor.
And indeed, yes, the town centre does require regeneration. But it requires some insight too, not merely finance.
My own observations are as follows:
* If I can visit a retail park and not pay parking charges and not be time limited, I will. The council seems oblivious to this.
* If I receive less than satisfactory service in retail outlets or cafes then obviously I call it a draw and go elsewhere.
* If markets close at 5pm and shut at 2pm on a Tuesday, some relic of the past, then it’s not working in our modern era.
* If a shopping centre feels there is no requirement for late-night openings as a normal activity then again people make a choice to go elsewhere.
* If I am being hassled by unsocial behaviour, again I avoid that space.
However, all Councillor Maunsell’s comments are understood and I have to agree we are a great community overall.
Regeneration in an age of outline services is to say the least difficult.
