I WOULD like to thank everyone who raised their voices in the recent consultation held by the Local Government Boundary Commission.
In particular, I would like to acknowledge those who objected to the proposal to include Denholme in the Worth Valley ward – including existing district councillors, parish councils, Keighley Town Council, Oakworth Village Society and many more.
Ultimately, the Worth Valley is a geographically vast area which currently takes in culturally similar communities including my own town council ward of Oakworth.
The notion of including Denholme was baffling – it would make serving the Worth Valley ward an incredibly difficult one whilst preventing councillors from adequately representing those I serve in Oakworth.
Whilst the inclusion of the entirety of Goose Eye into the ward made complete sense, it was the only bit which did.
When the proposals come back, I hope that the changes initially put forward will be reversed, except for the aforementioned changes to Goose Eye. This would be for the good of all in the Worth Valley, especially those who I am proud to represent.
Councillor Luke Maunsell, Keighley Town Council Oakworth ward
