People now have a chance to see Keighley as they’ve never seen it before – vividly illustrated in a newly-published graphic science fiction novel!

This colourful and unusual portrayal of the town has been created by Chris Lackey, who moved to Keighley from North America in 2010.

His book is called Transreality, and explores complex questions, such as whether it is our body, mind, relationships or experiences that make us human.

“It also looks at the idea of something called a ‘technological singularity’, which is a point where our technology becomes more intelligent than us,” Mr Lackey said.

“Humans integrate with technology to the point that they’re no longer human any more – or are they?

“I try to address these difficult questions in a narrative that means readers don’t have to delve in too deeply if they don’t want to.

“I’ve already had some nice reviews from other graphic novelists. I’ve worked on a previous graphic novel called Deadbeats, but I just did the words for that, not the artwork. For Transreality, I did the pictures as well as the writing, and that was a lot of work.”

Before moving to Keighley, Mr Lackey lived in Los Angeles for 16 years, but is originally from the town of Silvis in Illinois.

He came to Keighley because his wife is from here – the couple first met when they both lived in Los Angeles, and they now live in Fell Lane.

Mr Lackey has a professional background in film, television and internet animation.

Transreality is out now, priced £10 and published by Witch House Media. Copies can be bought from Central Hall in Alice Street, and also from Travelling Man store outlets in Leeds, Manchester, York and Newcastle.
