Paul Michael Glaser is to make the switch from iconic 1970s cop to one of the most famous roles in musical theatre.
He will appear at Bradford Alhambra in the lead role of Tevye in a national tour of Fiddler on the Roof.
Paul, who played Starsky in the police series Starsky and Hutch, will portray a father trying to find husbands for his many daughters.
Since the 1970s, Paul (pictured) has appeared in more than 50 stage roles across the USA, as well as films and TV series. He has also directed American television. It is a return to Fiddler for the actor -- in 1971 he played Perchik, the student and Bolshevik revolutionary who falls in love with one of Tevye’s daughters.
Now he sees the romance from the other side, struggling to come to terms with his headstrong daughter’s choices in a time of change.
The show features songs such as If I Were A Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker, Sunrise Sunset, To Life and Tradition.
The new production of Fiddler on the Roof will be directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood, who is an acclaimed stage director as well as judging TV’s Strictly Come Dancing.
The original stage production of 1964 ran for 13 years and more than 3,000 performances, winning nine Tony awards.
Fiddler on the Roof runs from February 25 to March 1. Visit bradford-theatres.org.uk or call 01274 432000 for further information.
