Keighley Playhouse will open its doors to the public on Monday for its new 2013-14 season.
When audiences arrive for Peter Quilter’s comedy, Duets, they will find those doors are new.
The old heavy doors of the Devonshire Street theatre have been replaced with a more pleasing entrance. Work was carried out during the theatre’s closed period in the summer, along with the addition of a new ladies’ toilet.
Playhouse chairman, Chris Stocks, said: “A few years ago we replaced the auditorium old seats with new, luxury quality, comfort and roomy seating.
“Last year, we enjoyed a rewarding season, and I’ve always felt any surplus money should be reinvested back into the theatre for the benefit of our loyal and faithful patrons. I am extremely pleased with the design and quality workmanship that has been carried out.
“I am proud to be associated with the progress we have achieved recently. I believe it’s paramount that when our audience attend the Keighley Playhouse, they enjoy the experience.”
Chris said that during the opening play of the last season, Calendar Girls, the Playhouse raised more than £1,200 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and more than £300 for the Sue Ryder charity. A production of Making Waves later in the season led to the audience donating more than £500 to the RNLI.
Chris added: “We also raised hundreds of pounds for Manorlands through our well-supported social evenings.”
