An evening of witty entertainment is promised in Halifax in an adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic The Pickwick Papers.

The Trials and Tribulations of Mr Pickwick will be related by Nigel Nevinson in the one-man play at the Square Chapel next month.

Promised is an engaging, light-hearted performance as Nigel (pictured) takes his audience through a host of farcical models.

Mr Pickwick meets eccentric characters on his travels across the country, and eventually finds himself in court for a breach of marriage.

The show will also highlight some of the terrible living conditions in Victorian times and how they shaped Dickens’ philosophy of life.

Nigel Nevinson has been in numerous plays and musicals since beginning his career in weekly rep with Lynda Bellingham in 1969.

The autumn season at the Square Chapel will continue with a wide range of entertainment for all ages.

Marsden theatre company Mikron present two shows – Beyond The Veil and Don’t Shoot The Messenger – and poet Roy Hutchins performs Forbidden Fruit. LipService Theatre present spoof Nordic Noir crime thriller Inspector Norse, while Smallpetitklein Dance Company perform Cut, based on Carmen.

For children, there is the magical festive show The Hunt for the Scroobious Pip, wizardry tale The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and shadow puppet play Circus Bear.

The Trials and Tribulations of Mr Pickwick is on September 19 at 8pm. Visit squarechapel.co.uk or call (01422) 349422 for information.
