Fun and feelgood music is promised from a band playing the first Groovy Happening of the autumn.

ReubIK step into the headline slot during Saturday’s concert in Haworth following several recent gigs locally.

The trio offer piano, guitar, percussion and three-part harmony, with music to suit all tastes.

Keighley band Black Horse Fairy are getting Groovy following their recent appearance in the Great Northern pub at Ingrow.

A spokesman said the five-piece band created songs of horror, love, menace and madness.

She added: “They are thrown together by their common existence as vagabonds, hobos and outcasts.

“They steal their songs from graves and the stars. They surface in unexpected places and in pertinent times, and tell their tales as if cursed to do so.”

Less mysterious is Barkin Spider, a new three-piece local band playing original material and making their first appearance at the Happening.

Returning by popular request will be Emily Sargant, described as “Haworth’s sweetheart”, performing original and acoustic covers.

Emily was recently invited to support West Yorkshire folk duo Plumbhall at their album launch in Shipley.

Well-known to Groovy regulars are the three experienced musicians who make up Those Guys, performing original material and covers.

The Groovy Happening is at Parkside Social Club in Butt Lane. Doors open at 7.30pm and admission is £3, with proceeds going to the Million for Manorlands appeal.

Future Groovy Happenings will be on October 5, November 9 and December 7, as well as an ‘on tour’ gig on October 19.

The Happening on October 5 will be a 50s night, featuring headliners Howlin’ Johnny and the ‘59 Sound, supported by Ed Stones and the BD3.

The audience will be asked to go along in 1950s costume.
