Belly dancing and a fashion show are among activities planned for Haworth’s steampunk weekend.

Organisers have invited the Four Hundred Roses ladies’ dance troupe to take part in the event on November 22 and 23.

The dancers, drawn from across the North of England, combine UK folk music and dance with tribal-style belly dance.

Main Street trader, Nikki Carroll, who is helping organise the steampunk event, said the Roses’ costumes would fit well with the weekend’s theme. Steampunk is based around the concept of science fiction set in the past, specifically the Victorian era, and its followers wear colourful period costumes.

Nikki said there would be a range of activities to attract both steampunk enthusiasts and the general public.

She added: “We have at least 200 steampunk people who’ve said they will definitely come to the event – it will be spectacular.

“We’ve definitely got steampunk stalls, selling clothing, jewellery and accessories, as well as Christmas stalls.”

Nikki said a fashion show would allow steampunk designers to display their outfits, and individuals can also showcase their own creations.

The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and the Bronte Parsonage Museum -- both with obvious Victorian connections -- are also keen to take part.
