The man hailed as the “world’s greatest Bluesbreaker” is returning to Keighley for the second time.

Texan blues legend Buddy Whittington performed in the town with his band in 2010 and 2012.

This time Buddy, regarded as one of the world’s top guitarists, will be at the Octagon in Bradford Road, Sandbeds.

Buddy Whittington played with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers for 15 years and played on several of the band’s albums.

He also opened many of the Bluesbreakers’ shows by singing a couple of songs himself, and has been praised for his trademark guitar and vocal sound.

When the Bluesbreakers broke up seven years ago, Buddy concentrated on his first solo CD, and formed a UK band to tour the songs around Europe.

The 2012 tour, which saw them play the New Variety Club in Keighley, took the quartet around the British Isles, as well as Belgium, Switzerland and Germany.

Buddy’s 2011 album Six String Svengali received glowing reviews.

Buddy’s latest appearance in Keighley will be his only stop in Yorkshire during a British tour.

Promoter Phil Booth said John Mayall had described Buddy as “possibly the greatest Bluesbreaker of them all”.

Phil said: “This is some accolade when you take into account that other members have included legends such as Jeff Beck, Mick Taylor, Coco Montoya and Mr Slow Hand himself, Eric Clapton.

“The late, great Gary Moore was a massive fan and supporter of Buddy and would often turn up unannounced at Buddy’s gigs and play in the backline.

“Such is the esteem in which Buddy is held. The mild-mannered Texan is loved and admired throughout the music world.”
