Dean Clough Galleries in Halifax will host an exhibition by Martin Froy throughout the summer.
The display harks back to the 1950s when the University of Leeds introduced the first artist-in-residence programme at any UK university. Artist Martin Froy was the first Gregory Fellow in Painting, between 1951 and 1954, and now he has been invited back to showcase his artwork of the 1950s.
The exhibition will also explore how the Leeds residency affected Froy’s later practice, placing him within the rich milieu of British figurative artists of the late 1950s and 1960s. Martin Froy and the Figurative Tradition will run from May 7 to August 2.
