Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The King and I needs more ornate costumes than the average show.

Ilkley Amateurs have discovered clothing isn't the only thing needed to make their 40-plus performers look oriental.

"We need to make sure that any skin showing is the right colour to look Oriental," said make-up chief Averil Ashworth.

"Since many of the men have bare chests that's a lot of makeup!"

The team has made 50 costumes and hired several others for the show at King's Hall in Ilkley.
