Keighley harmony trio Grace Notes join top folk comedian Sid Kipper for a special concert next month.

Meanwhile local singer-songwriter Steve Tilston has lined-up performances in the region's folk clubs.

And Celtic dance group Shooglenifty kicks off a new season at Saltaire's Victoria Hall.

All are publicised in the latest 78-page issue of Keighley-based folk magazine Tykes' News.

The A5-sized mag features news, reviews, features and listings from Yorkshire's acoustic music scene.

Grace Notes, renowned on the national folk music scene, recently launched a new album.

They unite with Sid Kipper and singer Dave Burland at the Raggalds Inn near Queensbury, on April 13 at 7.30pm.

The occasion is a "gala production" of Sid's humorous album In Season, in aid of The Intensive Care Unit.

Sid's album followed a long musical tradition of commemorating the rites and rituals of the changing seasons.

His twist on the genre covers bride-seeking sea captains, Christmas turkeys, the correct time to sow cannabis, and the official start of the paintballing season.

Tickets for the show cost £10 from 01535 606939. Grace Notes also plays Glusburn Institute on April 26 (phone 01535 630223).

Steve Tilston is among many of the region's singers whose coming appearances at folk clubs are publicised in Tykes' News.

He can be seen at Ryburn 3 Step at the Alma Inn in Cottonstones (June 24, phone 01422 822569) and Otley Folk Club in Korks Wine Bar (April 2, phone 01943 467189).

Scottish band Shooglenifty, returning to West Yorkshire after several years' absence, can be seen at Victoria Hall, Saltaire, on Friday, March 14.

The group is said to push traditional music to its limits by mixing Scots roots with distinctly modern beats.

Support comes from Kwame D which has performed its reggae, soul and world rhythms several times at Keighley's Cricketers Arms.

Coming up at the Saltaire venue are Scots band Dochas with vocalist Julie Fowlis on April 3 and Salsa Celtica on April 27. Phone 01274 588614.

Tykes also reveals that Haworth singer and musician Tim Moon plays with Pillowfish at the Topic Folk Club in Bradford Irish Club on March 20 at 8.30pm.

Keighley guitarist and singer Tony Levy makes several appearances including the Narrow Boat, Skipton, on March 17 and the Red Lion, Otley, on May 4.

Tykes' News, published every three months, features detailed listings and reports from many folk clubs around the region.

The latest issue has features on folk rock, eroticism in folk music, St George, and the current state of the folk performance circuit.

The letters' column has an ongoing debate about how honest people should be when reviewing folk albums.

There are previews of coming folk festivals, and reviews of concerts and albums by the likes of Grace Notes, Eliza Carthy, the Copper Family and Kate Bramley.

Tykes' costs £7.50 for four issues, from 408 Skipton Road, Utley, Keighley, West Yorkshire, BD20 6HP.
