A new children's book will magically raise money for Airedale Breast Cancer Support Group.

Ken Bottomley is donating proceeds from The Secret of the Magic Cards to the group.

He wanted to thank Airedale Hospital for treating his wife Julie after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Ken wrote his first children's book -- the Heron Blotch Spot Story -- with Julie.

Ken, from Eldwick, is selling The Secret of the Magic Cards through local bookshops including Reids in Cavendish Street.

The 135-page paperback tells of an ordinary boy with an extraordinary grandfather.

What begins as a typical magic trick at a birthday party turns into a death-defying adventure.

Ben and his friends are transported into a fairground where they are pursued by the Mad Clown.

The book is based on Ken's own trips to fairgrounds as a child and his son's birthday party, where his grandpa did a magic show.

Ken is pleased that booksellers including Reids owner Gerald Brooksbank are selling the book without charge.

He said Airedale hospital was still very supportive in helping Julie fight her illness.

He said: "Julie is in remission and is still the lovely, cheerful and positive person she has always been."

The Secret of the Magic Cards is Ken's third children's book.

The second, James and Gentletoes, raised money for baby alarms for Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Ken wanted to thank the hospital for caring for his son following a car accident.
