An Exley Head youngster has had his magical talents recognised in a variety show.

Toby Davies, 13, of Ridgeway Mount, took part in the Bradford's Got Talent' show at Bradford College last month.

His 20-minute act - which included illusionist routines, comedy, and participation from the audience - won him first prize at the event, which was watched by more than 100 people.

Although he was one of the youngest entertainers involved, Toby beat off competition from a range of other performing artists, including break-dancers, singers, actors and musicians.

A panel of three judges awarded him a £50 cash prize.

Toby, who is in year eight at Oakbank School, made it into the show by taking part in an audition - also organised and hosted by Bradford College.

He has been interested in magic since watching a magician perform at his sixth birthday.

Commenting on Toby's performance on the night, his mother, Sonja Davies, said: "I think he was a bit nervous to start with but in the end he managed very well.

"There was some fantastic talent on display there. The audience was great as well.

"Toby always performs for us at home and he wants to put on his acts at children's parties."

She added he planned to use some of his prize as holiday spending money but had already spent some of it on more magic trick props.
