Local youth theatre Kaleidoscope perform their first traditional musical this month.

Light-hearted show The Boyfriend is set in young ladies' finishing school in the South of France in the 1920s.

Kaleidoscope leader Rosemary Grainger said the action centred around preparations for a ball.

She said: "The story brims with youthful vitality which makes it perfect for the teenage cast.

"There's the usual chatter about what to wear, who to talk to and flirt with, and who to dance with: not so different from today.

"There is a certain amount of subterfuge involving different costumes, assumed identities and not-so-hidden agendas, where it becomes clear the intrigue of matchmaking never dies."

Members of Kaleidoscope hail from Keighley, Riddlesden, Cullingworth, Wilsden, Shipley and Baildon.

The cast includes local teenager Josh Packham, whose mother Sara, a local dance teacher, is the choreographer.

The Boyfriend runs April 3-5 at Bingley Arts Centre. Tickets cost £6 and £3 (concessions) from 01274 772675 or on the door.
