Four local children this weekend finish a fantasmagorical two months on the professional stage.

The youngsters from Oxenhope and Cullingworth have been performing in the musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Barnaby Packham has played the demanding lead role of Jeremy for around 20 performances.

And Sam Cameron, Emily Williams and Edward Denby have been in the children's chorus more than 30 times.

They helped portray the famous story of a flying, floating car that took its owners on a magical adventure.

The four children, all students of the Sara Packham Theatre School, have been speaking of their experiences.

Barnaby, nine, said his most exciting time was taking to the air every night as Chitty rose high above the Bradford Alhambra stage.

Edward, 10, said the children remained full of energy for the entire run because they were so excited.

He said: "I can't get to sleep. It's more exhausting for our parents!"

Emily, nine, and 10-year-old Sam enjoyed making new friends among the other children.

The youngsters also got to know the adults playing leading roles, talking to them in the wings during performances.

They said one of the friendliest actors was the man playing the evil child catcher, TV performer Christopher Timothy.

Now the local children are hoping to land more parts in professional shows.

Edward recently auditioned for I'll Do Anything, the new BBC talent contest to choose actors for Oliver! in the West End.

Barnaby has tried for a ballet dancing role in the West End hit musical Billy Elliot.
