Keighley's historic Albert pub kicked off regular music nights last weekend with two blues acts.

But landlord Nigel Morris said blues was just one of the styles due to be heard on Friday and Saturday nights.

"There'll be blues, folk, rock and jazz. We want to be eclectic," he said.

"We're looking at bringing music in on Sunday afternoons, and I want to start an open mic night for performers.

"I hope to have music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as well as music festivals"

The Albert is owned by Keighley brewer Timothy Taylor but was last autumn leased to West Yorkshire-based Ossett Brewery.

Following refurbishment Ossett has put in Nigel, who used to run popular music pub the Puzzle Hall Inn at Sowerby Bridge.

Nigel said: "Music brings people in, both musicians and music lovers -- and that brings other people in too. "We're looking for a good mix of people from 18 to 80 who like real ale, comfortable surroundings and live music."

Nigel said the Albert would host local bands performing their own music as well as established groups playing specific genres.

He said: "We will have indie bands but not heavy grunge. It has to be something that would appeal to me as a 44-year-old as well as an 18-year-old."

Playing this Friday is Hull's Paul Fulsham, popular around Leeds for classic R&B and rock, while March 6 sees guitarist Jed Thomas with songs by the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.

Coming up: classic covers band Dr Blue, March 7; rock blues and goth from Revelator, 14; Bluesville, 27.
