It's just another peaceful Yuletide in the Bailey household.

But various arrivals set the scene for a car crash Christmas in comedy play A Kick in the Baubles.

Keighley Playhouse's production portrays everything that can go wrong with the season to be jolly.

Frank dreads the arrival of the snobbish in-laws who only ever bring a single bottle of wine to the festivities.

The neighbours, hard nut Gary and boisterously brassy girlfriend Julie, gatecrash the party.

Then the Bailey's estranged daughter Milly suddenly appears, in the production next week.

The rug is pulled out from underneath the chaos and the heartstrings are firmly tugged in Gordon Steel's play.

There are family connections amongst the cast as well as in A Kick in the Baubles' characters.

The performers in the fictional "relative minefield" include real-life siblings Gill Walbank and Debbie Park.

Debbie said: "What unfolds in this play is true to life and he will recognise typical situations making this production more realistic.

"Gill and I are sisters and have first-hand experience of family get-togethers, particularly at this time of year.

Joining the two veterans of the Keighley Playhouse stage is Emma Thompson, making her stage debut after many players behind the scenes.

Director Stephen Clark said: "The comedy is rich and consistently effective. Chaotic, hectic and very, very funny!

"The play is not just about Christmas, it also makes perfect escapist entertainment.

"There is stress, tension and anger at every turn, laughter and sudden, heart-stopping tenderness."

The cast also includes Richard Aldham, Anthony Calvert, Phil Smith, Laura Judge, Kevin Moore and Beth Welch -- and Tilly the dog.

A Kick in the Baubles runs from Monday to Saturday at 7.30 pm. Book on 08451 267859.
