From the first notes of David Boddy's excellent band we knew we were to get a first-class show, produced by Philip Smith and his inspired team.

And so it proved, with a stream of lusty choruses, witty script and all the traditional characters of your much-loved pantomime.

Old Mother Hubbard herself was performed by Dean Harness, with a stentorian voice to match.

Her empty cupboard and life was eventually filled by the aristocratic efforts of David Knights's handsome baron.

The juvenile leads were also in good hands: Philip Smith's Cecil and Katrina Knights's Gloriana trod the bumpy path of true love much to our amusement, in the decorating scene for example.

Roxanne Williams and Alex Blackie as Robin and Melinda made an attractive second couple who were unfailingly dedicated to foiling the evil plans of the odious Sir Mortimer (John Cahill) and his unctuous greaseball Basil (Jason Jennings), both roundly booed whenever they dared appear on stage.

There were enough fairies to ensure a happy ending and we loved Scamp the dog (William Blackie) who had a great time chasing his one and only bone.
