Bronte Wheelers are very much a cycling club whose members enjoy all aspects of cycling, from family rides and steady Sunday morning runs, to training and racing at the highest regional and national levels in all forms of cycle sport, with an envious history of some of the best riders and results in the country.

The club has monthly meetings at Glusburn Institute, which are held on the third Monday every month, starting at 7.30pm.

We also have an annual dinner and prize presentation to celebrate the successes of riders in both club and open events, covering the full range of cycling events, from road both racing and sportives through to off-road and cyclo cross events.

While there is a competitive element to the club, we also run social rides on a Sunday and link in with other groups for rides on Saturdays.

We also have an active children’s section run under the British Cycling Go Ride banner. This runs through the summer months, from April, on alternate Monday evenings at Marley Sports Centre at 6.30pm to 7.30pm. This session is for six to 12-year-olds. It is a fun, multi-activity programme that helps to teach and improve basic riding and bike handling skills in a safe, car-free environment.

All are welcome to attend, and for Bronte Wheelers members, it is free. It is a nominal fee for others. All that is needed is a bike and helmet. It is run by the club’s qualified coaches.

Remaining sessions this summer are on August 26 plus September 9, 23 and 30. Contact Chris Young on 07940 738362, Andrew Wood on 07796 274884 or Peter Charlton on 01535 643184.

For the adults, if you are new to the sport or returning after a break, we will be holding some steady runs from Keighley into the Dales of approximately 35 miles on Sundays during July. If you are interested in coming along, contact David Green on 01535 631373 for details.

Who knows, you may progress to riding one of our Wednesday evening time trials, or if you are of a more competitive nature, why not try one anyway. Start time is 7.30pm on Wednesdays starting at Kildwick – entry is £3.

You can also keep up to date with the club’s activities by visiting our brontewheelers.org website or joining our Facebook group, which both give detail of club rides.
