THE club evening 10-mile time trials have now come to an end and concluded with a social gathering in the White Horse at Kildwick.
This featured a prize presentation to the winners of different category riders ranging from under 15s, which was won by 14 year old Alex Barusevicus of VC Bradford, right through to the over 60s, which was won by Nigel Austin of Otley CC.
Each of the categories are in five year age groups, so you are racing others of the same vintage. In all 12 winners were presented with a metal wall sign commemorating the Tour visiting Yorkshire donated by Heather Sanderson of the Bronte Wheelers.
This year the events have been well attended and the most popular I can remember with full fields on six events. 157 individual riders rode in the events, representing 34 cycling clubs from around the region and one or two from further afield.
22 ladies rode at least one of the 16 10-mile time trials and one lady, Liz Stefanuti from Skipton CC, rode 11 of them and finished off riding a tandem for the final Kildwick 10-miler. Liz, who is relatively new to the sport, was also the winner of the Ladies category for her age group. In keeping with etiquette I will not reveal that age!
The season-long inter-club competition, where points are awarded to riders from the qualifying clubs riding the events each week, had Nelson winning with 363 points, Bronte 2nd with 349 and VC Bradford/Pennine 3rd with 258.
Nelson retain the title for another year, and the trophy will stay resident with Nelson Wheelers. It is currently in the window of Moorhouse Butchers in Hellifield, and likely to stay there after being presented at the club dinner.
One person who cannot be at the dinner is Heather Sanderson, who has done a sterling job of collating the results, administrating the points competition, donating the prizes and arranging the presentations.
The dinner is in the traditional social season of winter, but Heather will be flying south for the winter to her second home of Australia.
Bronte Wheelers committee have therefore brought forward the presentation of the Sid Peacock trophy, as Heather is this year's recipient.
The trophy is awarded to a Bronte Wheeler who has made a significant contribution to the administration of the club.
The end of the time trial events also sees the start of the cyclo cross, with the Marley training sessions starting at Marley on Wednesday evenings.
Training starts at 7pm for an hour. This will help with the skills needed to ride a cross race or just give you a good workout. All you need to do is turn up on the night, no booking needed.
For anyone wanting to compete the Yorkshire Cyclo Cross Association winter series starts on August 31. There will be a race every Sunday through September and October, so for more details be sure to check out their website at www.yorkshirecyclocross.com
