STALLYBRASS Professor Michael Peter Ph.D., D.Sc. - 1929-2024 Mike was born in Ilkley in 1929, to Ella Wilson Stallybrass and Stephen Stallybrass. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College. Upon emigrating to the US, he obtained a MS in Applied Math at Brown University In Rhode Island, and a Ph.D (1966) and D.Sc. (1984) from the University of Glasgow. After taking a position at Georgia Tech as Associate Professor of Mathematics and Aerospace Engineering, in 1978, he became a Full Professor of Mathematics. He retired in 1998, after which he traveled extensively in Asia, where he became an esteemed teacher of English in Kunming, China. Mike is survived by his beloved daughter, Samantha Grace Stallybrass, son-in-law, Thomas Joseph Rhatigan and by Chris Weinberg, his companion of 40 years, and his sister-in-law Brenda Webb Stallybrass of Vineland, Ontario. He was predeceased by his brother Jeffrey Stallybrass. Those who knew him will miss his quick wit and unconventional sense of humor, his love of dancing, singing, and a good party.
