A charity project launched to recycle unwanted goods into community cash has made more donations to good causes.

New2U, based at St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Cowling, has presented £250 each to the village newsletter to help with running costs and to the Friends of Airedale Hospital, for bariatric wheelchairs.

The New2U scheme was launched in February with the aim of supporting the community by selling a range of unwanted or second-hand goods.

Staffed and run entirely by volunteers, it opens from 2pm to 4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10am to noon on Saturdays.

More than £2,000 has been raised so far, and the first donations were made in April, to Holy Trinity Church in Cowling and the Carers’ Resource.

Volunteer, Edna Smith, said: “The response from the village has been unbelievably good, with lots of items donated and many new friends calling for tea or coffee and to find a bargain.

“We intend to keep giving help to local good causes as funds allow. We are grateful to all the volunteers who give their time and villagers who support us.”
