An Oldfield teenager is taking part in a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Indonesia to carry out conservation work.
Hollie Postlethwaite will spend the first part of the fortnight-long expedition in the rainforest, counting and studying the insect population and tree species. She will be scuba diving to examine the coral during the second week.
Hollie, 17, who is studying animal management at Craven College in Skipton, said: “I have always loved animals and taken an interest in the environment and habitats. When I got the chance to go on this trip to gain first-hand practical experience and contribute to conservation projects taking place in remote areas I jumped at it.”
Hollie needs to raise £3,000 to fund her participation in next July’s expedition, being run by Operation Wallacea. The former Oakbank School pupil is a keen athlete and Bingley Harriers member, and is taking part in the Yorkshire Combined Events Championship in Leeds this weekend, raising money through sponsorship.
