Fundraising bosses at Manorlands are urging people to do a bit of Trotter-style wheeling and dealing

The Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice has launched a new challenge for budding Del Boys.

Teams will be given £60 each and will have until the end of the year to turn their dosh into £600.

The Diamond Geezer challenge is in celebration of Sue Ryder’s 60th anniversary.

“This is a great team-building event for any local businesses and community organisations – or even just a group of friends or family – who would like to support us,” said regional fundraiser Hayley Ibbotson.

“The idea is not for us to tell teams what to do with the money. We just want each one to think of inventive ways to turn it into £600 and become our Manorlands hospice Diamond Geezers.

“They might use it to buy ingredients for a cake sale or to pay for a venue for a fundraising night. It’s completely up to them.

“It’s all about wheeling and dealing in true Del Boy fashion to make the money grow.”

Teams will receive a fundraising pack when they sign up and support will be available from the hospice fundraisers.

All proceeds from the venture will go to the Oxenhope centre, which relies for most of its income on voluntary contributions and needs to find £1 million to maintain its invaluable services.

Manorlands provides care for people living with incurable illnesses through a range of facilities, including inpatient and day therapy units, a telemedicine scheme and community nursing team.

It also offers counselling and bereavement support to patients and their families.

Last week it was revealed that the Keighley News Million for Manorlands appeal, launched in April with a £1 million target, had already raised over £290,000.
