A green-thinking business has won permission to build an industrial unit and offices on an eyesore site in Keighley.

Steeton-based BCI Brewchem designs, builds and installs pipework systems for factories, breweries and food companies, but its big growth area is serving state-of-the-art green technology.

Bradford planners have now given consent for it to move to the former Hengbay’s scrapyard site in Brewery Street, near the Grade II-listed Dalton Mills.

The three-quarter hectare site has been unused for almost a decade, but now it will become home to new offices and a 2,272 sqm factory.

In addition to the 15 people who already work for Brewchem, the development will employ ten full-time staff and two part-time staff.

In keeping with BCI’s green approach, energy used by the building will be partially provided by solar panels on its roof.

Sales manager, Andrew Shedden, said the firm provided pipework for major green energy firms.

“We are looking forward to working up and down the country and taking on local young people to work for us,” he added.
