An insight into how wounds in films look so realistic will be one of the attractions on offer at Airedale Hospital’s open day.

Freelance make-up artist, Serena Gunpath, has already visited Airedale’s Nightingales Day Nursery to make some children look like they should be in A&E!

A similar session will be on offer at the open day, which runs from noon to 4pm on August 22.

The event will be staged in Airedale’s education centre and a marquee in the hospital grounds.

There will be more than 60 stands, with plenty to see and do, including a chance to experience using surgical equipment and receive blood pressure checks.

The day will feature child-friendly science and health attractions, including a 90-ft cave run, cave rescue vehicles, a fire engine and a visit from the Life Education Bus.

There will also be a cycle challenge, Thai boxing, guide dogs and an opportunity to pick up some careers advice.

Sodexo, Airedale’s catering company, will serve freshly made hot dogs from noon to 1.30pm, and people can enjoy tea, coffee and snacks from 1.30pm to 4pm.
