A Keighley man whose son died after suffering an epileptic seizure presented £2,700 to a national charity that helps people with the condition.

Joseph Mancakas, who lives off Park Lane, collected the cash with his family in aid of Epilepsy Action by organising the fifth annual Memorial Golf Day.

The successful event, in memory of Joseph’s son René, was held at Riddlesden Golf Club last month.

René, who died in 2008 aged 36, had also been a keen golfer. Joseph and his family have now raised £4,700 for Epilepsy Action, based in Leeds.

Mr Mancakas handed a cheque for this year’s total to Michael White, a fundraising events officer at Epilepsy Action, at Riddlesden Golf Club on Friday.

Mr White said: “We’re very grateful to the Mancakas family for their continued support.

“The memorial golf tournament is always a fantastic event, and this year was no exception. The money raised during the past five years has made, and will continue to make, a huge difference to the lives of people affected by epilepsy.”

The latest sum included a £1,500 donation from Joseph’s former employers, Principle Healthcare.

Sponsorship also came from Charles and Angela Wysocki, who own the Keighley-based water treatment products company Calmag.
