A traditional Korean martial art is to be used to help boost the confidence of young women in Keighley.
An eight-week taekwondo course is aimed at teenage girls aged 16 to 19, who are currently unemployed or not in education.
If they want to get involved, they must first attend an information session at Keighley Connexions Centre at 3pm on Tuesday, The actual course will begin on August 27, and will be held on Tuesdays from 3pm to 5pm.
It will be run by Prospects Services personal advisor, Lisa Winteridge. She is also the chief instructor and founder of the Strike Taekwondo group, based in South Street, Keighley.
“This is a great opportunity for local youngsters,” she said. “It will develop confidence, self-esteem and fitness, and will also provide an opportunity to make new friends and have fun learning a traditional martial art and Olympic sport. The course is free – travel expenses and refreshments are all included. They will also have the opportunity to become Strike Taekwondo Academy students.”
