Former Cross Hills woman Sarah Tunnicliffe has completed a solo cross- Channel swim for charity.

Former South Craven School pupil Sarah, 38, completed the 22-mile crossing in 16 hours and 15 minutes, wearing just a standard swimming costume, a swimming hat and a pair of goggles in water temperatures of between 15 and 18C.

She took the plunge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK because she was inspired “by the strength, courage and determination of people affected by cancer”.

Riddlesden-born Sarah has completed two previous channel challenges – a five-man relay and a three-man relay.

Sarah, a graduate of York University, now lives in Ely and works for English Heritage. Visit the justgiving website to make a donation to the cause.
