A packed programme of events at the weekend saw thousands of people flock to Keighley district.

An afternoon of fun and enchantment delighted 3,500 visitors at Oakworth’s Holden Park during Saturday’s annual Fairy Fest.

And there were also many attractions on offer for the estimated thousand people at East Riddlesden Hall’s family fun day on Sunday.

Many arrived in costume to enjoy entertainment on offer at Fairy Fest, including bouncy castles, belly dancing, pony rides, fire dancers, live music and at least 30 stalls selling food and fairy-related paraphernalia.

Keighley mayor, Councillor Sally Walker, officially opened the event.

Organiser and Friends of Holden Park chairman, Jackie McGinnis, said: “It was absolutely brilliant.

“The weather was a bit cloudy but it did brighten up later in the afternoon and it got warmer.

“The event seems to get bigger each year. It was exciting for the youngsters to see the fairies in the park grottoes.”

Jackie thanked sea cadets who helped with the organisation and also manned a stall. Another stand was run by Royal British Legion members.

A few short, sharp showers failed to dent the enthusiasm of people taking part in this year’s East Riddlesden Hall family fun day, with visitors treated to a variety of stalls, pony rides go-karting, refreshments and archery.

There was also a cupcake-making contest, as well as presentations by the Airedale beekeepers and members of the Canals and Rivers Trust.

Shelley Hollingdrake, community and learning officer at East Riddlesden Hall, said: “We had a great day.

“We had sunshine and showers but there were plenty of event shelters for people to duck into, and they braved the weather with some typical British bulldog spirit!

“Our wonderful friends group laid on some fantastic stalls, and any funds we raise go into supporting the hall and its conservation work.”
