At this month’s village council meeting, councillors said they had learned of a new proposal to build 220 to 250 houses on the Manywells Industrial Estate that will offer a much smaller area of industrial units than at present. It is understood that all current tenants of the industrial units have been given notice to quit by December. The original plans, submitted three years ago had been for 60 houses. The new plans also include removing the existing wildlife site to a site adjoining the remediated landfill area. A public consultation by site owners Commercial Estates Group is planned for September. Shortly afterwards, the village council will hold an open forum for residents to voice their views. And in other business, the village council has agreed to support a bid by the village hall committee to provide a new multi-purpose village hall on land at Mill Street. In planning matters, village councillors are recommending refusal of a planning application to site a 51.2m-high wind turbine on land near the Flappit as it is considered inappropriate to green belt planning policy and will severely impact on the visual amenity of the area. Additionally, it is felt that the ambient noise and shadow flicker will have a detrimental affect on nearby houses – and as the area is criss-crossed with footpaths and bridleways it is thought likely to create a nuisance to horses.
The Manorlands garden trail in July raised £2,492.60, an increase of nearly £500 on the previous year.
