A public meeting is being held in Cowling next month to discuss plans to refurbish the village recreation ground.

And volunteers will be sought to serve on a committee to take the ambitious scheme forward.

Current play equipment at the site is dated, and some has been be removed for safety reasons.

Plans include new items – with some, such as a zip wire, for older children – and a multi-use games area. And desperately-needed allotments could also be provided on the land.

“There is quite a long wish-list of ideas from people in the village and we need to refresh an original plan from three years ago,” said Andrew Mallinson, the parish clerk and chairman of an interim group looking at the recreation ground.

“At present, the field itself is in good condition, but the play equipment is in a very poor state.

“The possibility of allotments in the area has also arisen – that would satisfy a need and bring people of different ages together.”

The public meeting is at St Andrew’s Methodist Church at 7pm on September 3. Anyone with an interest in the site is urged to attend.
