An appeal has been lodged against Bradford Council’s refusal of plans for two wind turbines at Silsden.

Simon Spence had applied for permission to build a pair of 20kw turbines at Bank End Farm in Bank Lane.

Electricity generated would power the farm, with any surplus being directed into the national grid.

But the council rejected the application, claiming the turbines would be “inappropriate” and have a harmful effect on the green belt.

A planning spokesman added: “They would detract from the landscape quality and integrity, with cumulative effects due to the presence of existing turbines that have not been considered in the application.

“The extent of this visual harm would substantially outweigh the energy generation potential of the turbines.”

Meanwhile, plans for a 65 metre-high wind turbine at Manor Farm in Cullingworth have been thrown out by Bradford Council.

Neighbours had written to the council voicing fears the structure would tower over the surrounding landscape.
