Keighley’s own version of the X Factor struck a chord with shoppers.

The first heat of Airedale Unsigned, featuring three acts, took place next to the bus station.

Steve Seymour – manager of the Airedale Shopping Centre, which is staging the contest – said it had been a great success, despite a heavy downpour.

“The weather did its best to spoil things at one stage, but I am pleased to report the music shone through on the day,” he said.

“A very high standard has been set by the three talented acts – Johnny B, Declan Vink and Will Stead.

“Their great performances created a fantastic vibe, and you couldn’t help but tap your feet along with them. Our shoppers really got into the rhythm, and it was lovely to see people enjoying themselves and the music.

“Who knows, we might be showcasing a star of the future. By the sound of them, they are all chart-toppers to me!”

He urges more acts to come forward for the second heat, at 1pm on Saturday.

“We have some very talented musicians in Keighley,” Mr Seymour added.

“We wanted to celebrate this and give up-and-coming local musicians a chance to step into the spotlight and showcase their talents to our shoppers. There is a terrific prize on offer, so I would urge budding stars of the future to sign up.”

People will be able to vote for their favourite performer via the Airedale Shopping Centre Facebook page from Sunday. The winner, details of which will be announced next month, will support the headline act at the switching-on of Keighley’s Christmas lights in November.
