Competitors in a Keighley charity football tournament enjoyed a good day out, despite an unexpectedly low turnout.
Keighley restaurant and take-away Mango’s arranged the seven-a-side contest to raise money for the Mango’s Foundation, which regularly gives cash to district soccer teams and youth projects.
Sham Yousaf, from Mango’s, said the tournament at Marley Stadium on Sunday raised £200.
He said the intended first prize of an all-expenses-paid trip to watch Barcelona play in Spain could not be awarded, as not enough teams had taken part to provide the necessary cash for the prize.
However, he said the ten teams that did participate still played enthusiastically for the trophies on offer. The winning team was ‘AC Milan’, who defeated All Stars in the final by two goals to nil.
The day also included food and refreshments – offered in return for donations – and football training sessions for youngsters.
Mr Yousaf said: “It’s the first time we’ve done this and we had to improvise a bit, but we’ll know better next time. It was a great day for those who did come, with good weather and a really nice atmosphere.”
