Two South Craven men will attempt to break a world record for the longest live radio broadcast to raise money for charity.
Jason Smith, of Glusburn, and Mick Peacock, of Sutton, will attempt to broadcast 100 hours non-stop on Cowling-based Drystone Radio to raise £10,000 for Help for Heroes.
Jason, 20, and Mick, 46, who are presenters for the community radio station, have registered their attempt with the Guinness Book of World Records.
Their live broadcast attempt will start at 9am on September 6, “We’re going to film the whole event to show we’ve done it,” said Jason, who explained they are both allowed to take one five-minute break every hour.
“We can either have a five-minute cat nap or build it up and sleep for one hour after 12 hours.”
Mick, an electrician who served for three years in the army’s Royal Armoured Corps, is looking forward to the challenge.
“Sleep deprivation is nil in my eyes as long as we’re raising money for a good cause,” said Mick. “The fact I’m ex-forces means the determination to break this record is there.
“If we do it, we’ll be in the Guinness Book of World Records’ 2014 edition by Christmas.”
The current official record of 73 hours is held by German radio station Kiss FM. Visit bmycharity.com/-radiomarathon to make a donation to Help for Heroes on behalf of Jason and Mick.
